Guwahati, Aug 4: Assam is fighting with both the novel Coronavirus (COVID19) and flood, which together have so far claimed 219 lives.

110 people have lost their lives due to floods while 109 others died due to COVID-19 in the state.

According to the reports of the state health department, four persons have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the state in the last 24 hours.

On the other hand, Assam has witnessed the biggest single-day spike in the number of the new virus infections as the state has registered 2371 new positive cases for the novel Coronavirus on Monday.

With the new cases, the state tally for COVID-19 has now surged to 45275.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 2371 COVID19 positive cases have been detected in the state in last 24 hours and out of these 414 cases have been reported from Kamrup (Metro) district, 282 cases from Dibrugarh district, 251 cases from Nagaon district, 192 cases from Kamrup district.

He tweeted – “2371 new #COVID19 cases detected out of 41958 tests conducted in last 24 hrs. Positivity rate~ 5.65%. Max case~ Kamrup (M): 414, Dibrugarh- 282, Nagaon- 251, Kamrup (R)- 192.

Earlier on July 30, the state had reported 2112 COVID-19 positive cases.

However, 33428 patients have discharged from the hospitals so far and the state has now 11735 active positive cases for the new virus.

On the other hand, the flood situation in the state has improved, but nearly 4 lakh people of 17 district are still affected in the deluge.

The water levels of most of the rivers in the state are decreasing following sunshine in the past few days.

But the Brahmaputra river is still flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district and Dhubri district.
