2 frozen fish packages from India tested positive for COVID in China

India-China Import, Dec 20: China has suspended importing seafood from an Indian company after three frozen fish packages tested positive for COVID, local customs authorities said on Friday.

The frozen cuttlefish packages imported from a Kolkata-based company tested positive for the coronavirus, the General Administration of Customs of China said in a statement.

State media reports said that it wasn’t the first time that frozen food like fish in this scenario, imported from India had tested positive for COVID in China. Earlier this month, packages of frozen hairtail fish tested positive in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province in north China.

The suspension of import is likely to be followed by testing of all workers involved in the import of this particular batch of cuttlefish. Local authorities had subsequently launched nucleic acid testing and centralised quarantine for the workers involved, the report said, adding results of all nucleic acid tests were negative.

The third sample was taken from frozen Basa fish from Vietnam in another warehouse.
